“Well, it take almost three years of hard work, innovation and much discussion on both sides of the Atlantic. From his home in Denmark, mobile artist Ole Flensted worked to create his interpretation of the Guggenheim and the New York skyline. He sees the Guggenheim as “a spiralling pearl nestled amongst the skyscraper-high buildings”.

Like the actual architecture, the new mobile is spectacular in its simplicity, contrasting Frank Lloyd Wright’s 1959 spiral with the rectangular shapes of its 1992 annexe and the surrounding skyscrapers.

This new Guggenheim Mobile not only explores the architecture but, as with all Flensted Mobiles, also allows the shapes to move and change. Movement allows the light, seen through the tens of tiny windows in each of the buildings, to change in a similar way to the building itself, which ingeniously used its circular structure to allow sunlight to filter through and reflect light naturally: a wonderful way to view art!
