Pierrot

Designed by Hans Christian Andersen

The old Commedia-dell’arte figure Pierrot is seen again and again in the about 1,500 paper cut-outs by Hans Christian Andersen that are known today. Pierrot often is a detail among other figures in the complicated paper cut-outs.

However, occasionally he is all alone like this ”Dancing Pierrot”.

Hans Christian Andersen made this cut-out for Mathilde Ørsted, daughter of the famous Danish physicist Hans Christian Ørsted.

The original paper cut-out now belongs to the Andersen Museum in Odense, Denmark.
